Elementary music classes for Kindergarten through 4th grade meet weekly. The fundamentals of being tuneful, beatful and artful are taught through the adaptation of the First Steps in Music/Conversational Solfege curriculum. To be tuneful is to have tunes in your head and learn to coordinate your voice to sing those tunes. To be beatful is to feel the pulse of music and how that pulse is grouped in either 2s or 3s. To be artful is to be moved by music in the many ways music can elicit a feelingful response.
We are preparing lifelong musical skills for a generation of citizens who will be moved by quality music literature. They will feel comfortable when singing lullabies to their children, when singing during worship, or when dancing at a wedding. We call this our 30 year plan!
